Statement of Purpose Guidelines

 

 

Statement of Purpose letters should…

 

·         include a heading with your full name, mailing address and e-mail address on each page.

 

·         be addressed to the Int’l Internship & Volunteer Network.

 

·       be written in English (note: candidates interested in select placements may be required to submit a Statement of Purpose in English and the language of the host country, respectively.)

 

·       be limited to no more than two (2) pages in length.

 

·       be submitted via e-mail to MichelleAnderson@IIVNUSA.com, in Microsoft Word format.

 

·       accompany participants Resume or Curriculum Vitae, also submitted in English, in the template format below, which includes a passport size photo embedded on the top right of the Resume/CV.  This will be presented to host employers so please ensure it is a headshot, in professional business attire, hair pulled away from your face, and be sure to smile!  (Candidates interested in select placements may be requested to provide a Resume/CV in English and the language of the host country, respectively.) 

 

·         be submitted along with a Program Application; www.IIVNetwork.com/programapplication.html and Resume/CV in the preferred Microsoft Word format.

 

The following points should be included in applicants Statement of Purpose Letter:

 

  1. Introduce yourself.  Note your educational achievements and/or background.
  2. Describe your professional achievements. 
  3. Type(s) of Program interested in (Internship, Volunteer or Pre-Med).
  4. Reasons for participating in an IIVN Internship or Volunteer program.
  5. Expectations from the program.
  6. Future professional career goals & personal aspirations. Where do you see yourself one (1) year from now?   Where do you see yourself five (5) years from now?
  7. The top 3 Countries that you are interested in visiting, in order of 1st, 2nd & 3rd choices. 
  8. Start and End Dates desired for program participation.  Any time off requested during the program dates. 
  9. Type & size of Host Employer/Association desired for placement. 
  10. Personal & Professional Experience (paid & unpaid).
  11. What personal and professional skills have you acquired in your past experience that would be useful to your host employer/association?
  12. What new skills do you hope to acquire during your program?
  13. Personal & professional characteristics which would be of interest to prospective Host Employers/Associations.
  14. Type of position/work/activity/project interested in (be as specific as possible).
  15. How would you describe your perfect Internship or Volunteer Program? (please be as specific and realistic as possible.)
  16. What aspects of the work place are of prime importance to you?
  17. What type of work atmosphere do you prefer (relaxed, competitive, conservative, etc..).  Do you prefer a business suit atmosphere to one that is more casual?
  18. Foreign Language skills (reading, writing and speaking).
  19. Ability to adapt in an inter-cultural environment.
