Airlines

All participants must secure their own airline travel to/from their host country, however, are not required to utilize one of the resources listed below, as they are only options to consider.

Participants are strongly encouraged to NOT book their airline reservations until they receive confirmation of their program details and approval of their Visa (if applicable)!  Should a participant decide to purchase an airline ticket to the host country, prior to a position being confirmed and visa being approved, participant will be responsible for any and all charges that may be incurred in the event the ticket needs to be changed!

Cybercafé Search Engine – If you need access to the internet, this site can help you find out where the nearest cybercafé is to your program location.

Oratory - How to pack the right suitcase for each trip.

 

Skype - Internet Phone Service allows you to download software and use your computer to make phone calls.  With a microphone headset, you can speak through your laptop.  Downloading Skype is free, as are calls to (and from) other Skype users.  Calling non-Skype users costs pennies per minute and is billed to your credit card or PayPal account.  Skype also allows you to sign up for "virtual" phone numbers, which allows incoming calls - a bonus to friends and family who can call you at a local rate.

State Department - Consular Affairs Publications - Provides information on sending money overseas, tips for travelers to specific regions, advisories for older Americans, medical information for Americans traveling abroad and information on overseas citizen services.  Covers both foreign travel and country/region-specific travel.

State Department Consular Information Sheets - Consular Information Sheets are available by country.  They include locations of embassies, consulates and information on health conditions; political disturbances; crime and security; unusual immigration, entry, currency regulations and practices.

State Department Travel Advisories - Provides warnings issued by the State Department regarding travel to particular countries.  Covers such topics as entry and exit requirements, medical concerns, aviation safety, crime, and embassy and consulate locations.  Includes Public Announcements about terrorist threats and other short-term and/or transnational conditions posing risks to the security of American travelers.

State Department Travel, Judicial Assistance - Information, searchable by country or subject, includes authentication of documents for use abroad, obtaining evidence abroad, international judicial assistance, retaining a foreign attorney, enforcement of judgments, notarial and authentification services of U.S. Consular officers abroad, performance of notary functions abroad by American notaries and service of legal document abroad.

State Department Travel, Visa and Passport Requirements - Foreign entry requirements for U.S. citizens traveling internationally.  Also provides addresses of US Embassies and Consulates worldwide.  Information bulletins cover civil unrest, crime and natural disasters (such as earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding, and forest fires) worldwide.

Tourism Offices Worldwide Directory - Guide to official tourist information sources in the U.S. and abroad. Lists official government tourism offices, convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, and similar agencies, which provide free and non-commercial travel information to the public.

TimeAndDate.com – Provides all time zones and running, up-to-date clocks for all capital cities.

 

Travlang - Starting point of learning the language in the country to be visited.  Translation of key words and expressions, you may also listen to the pronunciation in English.

U.S. State Department: Bureau of Consular Affairs: Foreign Entry Requirements –This site contains brief descriptions of entry requirements for several countries.

 

U.S. State Department Bureau of Consular Affairs: Important Telephone Numbers - List of important telephone numbers for overseas citizens: who to call in case of robbery, arrest, detention, abduction, crisis, or death abroad.

 

World Health Organization - Can view risks by country or by disease.  Provides vaccination requirements, information on accidents, infectious diseases, and traveler checklist.  Provides health and disease alerts.
