Discover Infinite Possibilities

Discover Japan

Steeped in centuries of Asian culture and history, Japan, an archipelago of 4 major and over 4,000 smaller islands, is a mostly mountainous country with only 15% of its land cultivable. As a result of that shortage of land, its largest cities ring the coastline. The mammoth metropolis of Tokyo, and the other huge cities along the Pacific Ocean are home to most of its people.

Everyone seems to have their own image of modern Japan. It may be the cutting edge consumer gadgets, the automobiles, the video games or even Mount Fuji. The country is a leading nation in the fields of scientific research and production of high technology products.  Post-war Japan has been heavily influenced by American and European culture. Japan is at the center of the global economy and is recognized as the second largest economy in the world (behind the United States).

Visitors enjoy the fast-paced culture and excitement of Tokyo and Osaka, the rural coastal villages and wilderness areas, the winter wonderland of Sapporo, and most of all...the courteous and respectful Japanese people.

We are proud to offer teaching internships in Nagasaki, Fukuoka and Kagoshima, and invite you to experience first hand, all the wonders of Japan!

Program & Placement Opportunities

It is our pleasure to work with you to customize a teaching internship in Japan.  Currently, we offer teaching programs in Nagasaki, Fukuoka and Kagoshima.

Each term we select a small number of teaching interns, currently studying or recently graduated, to join our teaching team in Japan.  Although these opportunities are unpaid, the major expenses of coming to and living in Japan are covered, including airfare, lodging and most meals.

We offer opportunities to teach in schools from elementary through college. Currently, Japan is researching and developing the English lesson curriculum from the USA Summer Camp for year-round use in the Japanese School System.  This project is called English for the Next Generation (ENG).

Classes:

Interns teach a maximum of 20 class hours per week.  The ENG model is working with small groups, whereas 3-Interns teach a class together.

There are a few single-placement positions (one intern per classroom) available, for those wishing to experience traditional classroom teaching. Typically these placements are best suited for participants studying or planning a career as a teacher.

Classroom Instructor: Ideally suited for participants who are training to become a professional teacher. You will be trained in the target curriculum but would run your own classes. Currently these positions are at the junior college level in Japan.

Team Teacher: Classes are taught by a team of three interns, using very active, fun and motivating small-group lesson plans. Not only is this a valuable experience for future teachers, but it also offers a unique experience for any participant who enjoys working with children and has the desire to spend a semester living in Japan.

Upon commencement of the program, Interns will be trained in Japan and provided the curriculum for classes. Depending on the placement, interns may be required to also help create lesson plans under supervision. Interns will teach a maximum of 20 class hours per week.  Complimentary Japanese classes and/or tutors are available for interns with an interest in learning to speak or improve their Japanese.
