A valid passport is required for all U.S. citizens and foreign nationals entering France. All foreign citizens who wish to come to France must be able to present regulatory proof of the purpose of their stay, means of support and accommodation.
Depending on your nationality and duration of stay in France, a visa may be required. If so, you must obtain the visa at the French Consulate in your home country prior to departing for France.
The Short Stay Visa allows you to go to France and the others Schengen states for tourism, business or family visits, up to a maximum of 90 days or multiple stays totalling less than 90 days in a period of six months.
A short stay visa is waived for citizens of the following countries:
· Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Holy See, Honduras, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela;
· Holders of passports from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and the Special Administrative Region of Macao of the People’s Republic of China;
· Holders of a valid residence document in France;
· Holders of a residence document issued by a country which adheres to the Schengen Agreement;
· Holders of a travel document issued by a country which adheres to the Schengen Agreement.
The Long Stay Visa (D) allows you to stay in France for more than 3 months, for example to study, work, etc.
A long stay visa is waived for citizens of the following countries;
· States of the European Union and the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, Monaco and Andorra.
